In the past few years, Trieste has rediscovered its essence as a sought-after tourist destination chosen by many national and international visitors. In addition, there are thousands of tourists reaching Trieste to board a cruise ship, as well as cruise passengers disembarking here during their journey. The cruise traffic generates a considerable economic impact for the city: according to estimations, on average each cruiser spends €70 locally. But the environment and the management of these flows are issues that the city still has to face to offer sustainable cruise ship tourism in line with local needs.
