In the past few years, Trieste has rediscovered its essence as a sought-after tourist destination chosen by many national and international visitors.
In addition, there are thousands of tourists reaching Trieste to board a cruise ship, as well as cruise passengers disembarking here during their journey.
The cruise traffic generates a considerable economic impact for the city: according to estimations, on average each cruiser spends €70 locally.
But the environment and the management of these flows are issues that the city still has to face to offer sustainable cruise ship tourism in line with local needs.
To address these problems, a low-carbon emissions transport plan – promoted by LOCATIONS project – was formulated especially for Trieste. […]
